Want to work at the railway?

If you share our passion for restoring Shillingstone’s little piece of the former S&DJ Railway, why not become a volunteer? You don’t need any special skills, although if you do have suitable experience or qualifications, so much the better. Roles range from helping in the shop and café to track-laying, property maintenance, and gardening along with work behind the scenes such as planning, media and administrative roles. Roles can be practical or administrative- working on site or at home - the choice is yours.

If you feel you can lend a hand and have the time to spare, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us and we will arrange to have a chat with you at the station. Then there is a form to fill, as all volunteers need to be members, followed by your safety induction.

 

There’s no upper age limit, but for health and safety reasons volunteers must be at least 14 and, if below the age of 16, will need to be accompanied by a parent and guardian, and work under supervision.

Corporate Away Days

We can offer a day at the North Dorset Railway, tailored to suit your employees, giving them a chance to experience what it is like to work on and around the railway and station on heritage restoration projects. NDR volunteers would be on hand to advise, guide and answer any questions on the day.
