Locomotives & Rolling Stock

Here is a selection of the Locos and Rolling Stock located at the NDR at Shillingstone. We have enthusiastic and hard working teams known as "The Wagoners"  and "Project 62" - preserving and restoring these historical artefacts.

Wickham-Elliott Track Recording Railbus

Built by Wickham & Co of Ware in 1959 as a track inspection vehicle to accommodate early computer equipment built by Elliott Brothers of London.  999507 continued to be used by BR until it was withdrawn in 1991, late enough to ensure its future in preservation.  In 1997 it went to the East Lancashire Railway where it was mechanically restored and stripped of its data recording equipment.  It next went to the Middleton Railway, where it was fitted with seats. In 2008 it went to the Lavender Line in East Sussex where it was in regular passenger service for more than a decade.  It was purchased by the North Dorset Railway and arrived on 23rd June 2026.  The plan is to restore the Railbus and bring it into operational use as a coach, hauled by our Diesel Loco. Longer term, when the engine has been restored, it will then operate as a self-propelled passenger Railbus.
