Paying for everything

Most of NDR’s income comes from membership fees, together with the profits made from our café and shop, which is used to cover the day to day running costs. To fund new projects such as buildings, track laying, signalling and engine and rolling stock restoration we largely rely on the generosity of individual supporters and grant-awarding bodies.

Our newly-acquired Wickham Railbus requires substantial restoration work.  The first step will be to restore it to the point where it can be used as a 48 seater passenger coach, hauled by the Ashdown and with the newly-restored brake van behind.  The longer-term aim is to get the motive power restored, if possible.  This will make it self-propelled.  At that stage it should be an attractive option as a gala visitor for other heritage railways, and can earn money for NDR.

We have no paid employees. Everyone involved in running the railway is a volunteer so all donations go directly to the restoration, maintenance and running of the railway.
