The last track of the Northern Extension was laid

DATE POSTED: 28 Jun 2025

On a hot afternoon, a Permanent Way team of 12 volunteers laid the last track of the 400m extension, connecting to existing track.   Operations manager Phil Jacques placed the final ‘golden’ screw and it was driven home.  He then thanked the team for their ‘incredible effort’.

In all, a pool of 16 volunteers had worked a total of 850 hours, laid 1,312 feet of track, fitted 962 ‘chairs’ to support the rails, and used 2,886 screw to fix the chairs to 481 sleepers.
