Installation of the 'Binegar' crane
DATE POSTED: 10 Jun 2025A hand-operated crane originally located at Binegar station in Somerset was installed on the station’s loading dock. In 1904 a narrow gauge line was built from the Oakhill Brewery to Binegar, where the crane was used to transfer barrels onto the main Somerset and Dorset line.
The crane came to Shillingstone in 2023 on long-term loan. Despite its age, it needed little more than a fresh coat of paint.
