Increasing stability of the embankment

The team have again made tremendous progress this week on the embankment North of the bridge. On Wednesday they began by excavating a 1 metre wide shelf all along the existing embankment down to the level of the new embankment. This has been done so that subsequent layers of compacted material will then bridge the vertical joint and add greatly to the stability of the embankment. On Saturday they completed a 200/250mm layer of fill between ch 260 and ch 230. This material is compacting extremely well.

We have also taken delivery this week of a further 300 sleepers needed for the track laying between Cattle Creep and the station.
