Attention turns to the embankment North of the bridge

Now that the trackbed between the station and Lamb House Bridge has been completed, the team have turned their attention to completing the embankment to the North of the bridge. This is being widened (to accommodate the cess) and straightened on its Eastern side and raised towards the correct height.

On Wednesday, we took delivery of a 3-tonne digger and 6 tonne dumper on loan from Mark Farwell Plant hire. After the team had familiarised themselves with operation of the larger dumper they levelled up the toe of the existing embankment from Ch 270 to Ch315. This was then consolidated with the 5 tonne roller. Meanwhile, the other excavator cleared and loaded the rest of the vegetation adjacent to Cattle Creep bridge. In the afternoon they brought 40 tonnes of subsoil from Bere Marsh field to start the first layer of build-up from Ch 270/315 and thoroughly compacted it.

On Saturday, around 160 tonnes of fill were loaded out, spread and compacted. The area between Cattle Creep and the top of the ramp was levelled up and rolled. On Sunday roughly 84 tonnes more fill was added and compacted on the strip between Ch 260 and Ch 300.
