A milestone reached

A big milestone was reached on Saturday: we now have a ballasted track bed from the station yard to Lamb House bridge, to Ch 230. (The last 10 m is being left as a dirt surface for forthcoming bridge works)

Work then commenced on widening the embankment beyond the bridge. An access track was shelved in between Ch300 to Ch350 at the bottom of the bank. After grading out by the excavator it was then rolled “to refusal” by 10 passes of our 5-tonne vibrating roller. Filling material was spread and levelled in a 200 mm average thickness bed and compacted as before. Again, excellent compaction was achieved.

Meanwhile, the P Way team were continuing to fix chairs to sleepers.
